This book is based on personal experiences not a scientific research or facts. The range of the audience of the book is more likely people under 25 years olds, who have not got yet their own personal experiences with friends, teams or costumers.For different topics, the author uses one or two personal stories to convince the reader that his point of view is right, but these topics are very delicate topics and one cannot conclude that if someone with one case has got positive result, the other will get the same positive result as well. Sometime he even uses the stories from the school time, which I find very cursory.Overall to me it is a boring book, the way of writing and exploring the issues are disheveled. In the middle of reading I finally decided gave up, because it was like torturing myself.
I have to agree with other comments here and it is clear that the book is not based on scientific research or cases, however, it is a great lesson to learn what is possible and simply can motivate to try communicating in new ways. The lessons Mr. Kerpen is sharing are very lively and easy to repeat and I learned that it can give quick success.On top it has been a great motivator for me to look into more - scientific - research about the topic.Therefore, if you think that you want to improve your communication skills and that you need a push, this book is brilliant, but to not forget to continue reading more scientifically written material!Definitely to be recommended as well because it is written easily and the perfect book to just read a handful of pages and have some new input and put it aside.
After reading "The art of people", I just felt natural to act as Dave is advising. It felt so normal to be implemented and easy to be understood. This book brought to the sunlight some native skills that just needed a little boost and training and that turned out to be some of the most useful skills, in terms of building and maintaining good relationships. We have to realize that we can not build a successful career in no matter what without having to interact with people and Dave makes this interaction much more natural and easy to understand.
I have read the art of people and I think it's a brilliant book. It helps you to understand and use skills that you already have but you just neglect. His personal experience just makes easier to understand how to actually use what he is explaining. Sometimes we just need a reminder of something that to others may seem obvious. And the test that it's inside the book? I had no idea it existed but it is definitely accurate.
